I was at my friend’s house baking cookies with her when she suddenly got a call. She answered it and while talking on the phone, she got a pen and a piece of paper and wrote “sports marketing Japan” on a piece of paper. I saw her smiling as she put down the phone. I asked her who she was talking to. She said it was her boss and that he told her she just got a job in advertising in Japan. She squealed and said she couldn’t wait to go to Japan since she’s never been there before.
I was so happy for my friend, so I asked her all about this new job of hers. She said that’s it’s almost the same as the job she has here except that it’s in Japan. It’s still all about advertising and sports. Now that I think about it, I never really got to know what my friend does at her job. I asked her and she explained to me everything I needed to know about it. She said that she does sports sponsorship. It’s when a sport is being sponsored by a brand like Nike or Adidas or Gatorade. I was still at loss, so I asked her to give me more examples. She named some famous celebrities like Maria Sharapova and Michael Jordan who are being sponsored by a brand like Nike. I ask her why they sponsor celebrities like them. She explained that both of them have something in common: they are top players of their particular sport, and they have a lot of fans that could be potential buyers of the products of the sponsors. She also added that the values that Nike have are also shared by these celebrities.
I could tell my friend was very good at her job just by the way she explained it. I then wished her luck for her new job in Japan.
